I remember when Facebook ads first came out. They were so cheap, so awesome, and so effective.
Are they still worth it ten years later? It seems like traditional marketing methods like Facebook ads have gotten increasingly more expensive, and maybe less effective.
But who knows? I asked the Facebook ad experts at Terkel for their thoughts. Here’s what they had to say.
Are Facebook Ads Worth It in 2023?
From no longer being a viable advertising channel to requiring businesses to go all-in for success, here are six answers to the question, "Why are Facebook ads worth it or not in 2023?"
- No: It is More Challenging to Calculate the Return on Investment
- Yes: It Has Highly Targeted Advertising Capabilities
- Maybe: Depends on the Campaign Goals and the Target Audience
- Maybe: This Relies on Your Niche
- Maybe: Subject to Particular Business Objectives
- Maybe: Contingent on How Businesses Rise to the Challenge
No: It is More Challenging to Calculate the Return on Investment
Having run ads on Facebook for a few years now, I think they are no longer worth the investment, as the ROI is diminishing all the time. For starters, the competition is more fierce than ever. With so many businesses advertising on Facebook, it's becoming more difficult and expensive to stand out and get noticed by potential customers.
The algorithm changes made by Facebook have reduced the organic space of pages, making it more challenging to calculate the return on investment for advertising campaigns.
Finally, separating out and measuring the ROI for Facebook ads isn't easy. While Facebook provides detailed analytics, it's difficult to gauge the return on investment for advertising campaigns. Considering the aforementioned factors, I believe that Facebook ads are no longer a viable advertising channel in 2023.

Yes: It Has Highly Targeted Advertising Capabilities
One of the best features of Facebook Ads is the highly targeted advertising capabilities. Facebook has access to a wealth of data on its users, including their interests, behaviors, and demographics.
This allows businesses to create accurate advertising campaigns that reach the people who are most likely to be interested in their products or services. Businesses can target their ads based on factors such as age, gender, location, interests, behaviors, and even past purchase history.
This level of targeting helps to ensure that the right people are seeing the ads and increases the likelihood of conversions.
It provides businesses with a variety of ad formats to choose from. Overall, the highly targeted advertising and diverse ad formats offered by Facebook Ads make it a valuable tool for businesses looking to reach their target audience and drive results.

Maybe: Depends on the Campaign Goals and the Target Audience
It depends on the goals of the advertising campaign and the target audience. Certain businesses can maximize the effectiveness of their Facebook Ads if they target active users on the platform, design the ads effectively, and optimize ad spending.
However, it may not be worth it for businesses that do not see a positive return on investment or if the target audience is not active on Facebook. Ultimately, the effectiveness of Facebook ads is subjective and dependent on the specific circumstances.

Maybe: This Relies on Your Niche
You may wonder how Facebook ads can be worth it if they're so expensive. The answer lies in the targeting. Facebook has a lot of data about its users and can use that information to target specific groups of people with your ads. For example, if you are selling shoes for women, you could target people who like sports and fitness or have an interest in fashion.
This will help ensure that only those who would be interested in buying your product see the ad and not someone else who might not need or want it. Facebook ads aren't worth it because of the amount of money you have to pay for them; they are expensive.
The price of a single click can range from $0.20 to $2, depending on the audience you're targeting and what kind of ad you want to run. You can get cheaper clicks if you're willing to pay less per impression (the number of times an ad shows up) or if your conversion rate is low.

Maybe: Subject to Particular Business Objectives
Whether Facebook ads are worth it in 2023 depends on several factors, including the target audience, advertising goals, budget, and competition. Their ads can be a worthwhile investment if you use them correctly and reach the right audience. With over 2.7 billion monthly active users, this networking service offers a vast audience for advertisers to target, making it an attractive platform for marketers.
Facebook's sophisticated targeting options allow for particular audience targeting. However, in 2023, the competition on Facebook may be higher, and ad costs may have increased, making it more challenging to achieve the desired results.
It is essential to monitor and assess the performance of Facebook ads regularly and adjust strategies as necessary to ensure they remain cost-effective. Ultimately, the value of Facebook ads will depend on the particular circumstances and objectives of the business.

Maybe: Contingent on How Businesses Rise to the Challenge
Facebook has a massive user base, with over 2.7 billion monthly active users, and it offers a wide range of targeting options, making it possible to reach specific audiences.
Its algorithm continues to improve, making it easier for businesses to deliver relevant and personalized advertising to their target audience. However, competition increases on the platform, which can drive up advertising costs.
Also, the platform's algorithm can be complex, making it challenging for some businesses to achieve the results they want.
Facebook advertising can still be worth it in 2023 for businesses that clearly understand their target audience and marketing goals and will invest time and resources into creating effective advertising campaigns.
