When I was 26 years old I went to Sagres, Portugal with my mom and sister.
Sagres was the starting point for many sailing exhibitions when people thought the world was flat, and boats would go over the edge of the world. As I stood on the cliff overlooking the sea, I thought about all the great explorers who dared to sail and lead a pack of people into the unknown.
Honestly, so inspiring. Still inspired to think back to that spot on earth that made explorers explore, and stopped others from being explorers.
To get a feel for other inspiring places in the world – and perhaps add a few bucketlist items – I asked Terkel about their experiences.

New York City
Although I may not have known the location of its natural beauty, I found it to be incredibly spiritual and inspiring. The diverse mix of cultures initially overwhelmed me with its dynamic energy. From towering skyscrapers to bustling streets and diverse neighborhoods, this city is a true testament to its vitality. Visiting this part of the world is a fully empowering experience.

The Grand Canyon
Standing on the rim of the Grand Canyon is one of the most awe-inspiring experiences a person can have. The vastness of its depths and majestic views stretch for miles in every direction, providing an unparalleled sense of grandeur.
It’s not only the sheer size that makes it so inspiring though—its powerful hues of reds and oranges painted across the landscape by the setting sun create an atmosphere that is truly humbling.
Standing on the edge of this canyon, looking out into its endless beauty, one can’t help but feel a sense of awe and appreciation for nature’s majesty. If you’re inspired by such natural wonders and want to take action to protect the environment, consider supporting carbon offsets through platforms like Carbon Click.

Redwood Forest
There are many beautiful and inspiring spots in our world, but the one that had the largest impact on me was the Redwood Forest in California. When you are standing beneath the canopy of trees towering up to 350 feet above you, you realize just how insignificant you are.
That may not sound inspirational, but that realization that you and all of your problems are but a speck in the greater world provided clarity that I hadn’t previously had. These trees live for thousands of years and have endured all that man has thrown at them. They support an entire ecosystem. Standing among these giants that were here before you and will be here long after you really put things into perspective.

Piazza Del Campo
Siena’s Piazza del Campo [the Siena Square] is the most inspiring spot I’ve ever been to. It’s one of Europe’s greatest medieval squares, renowned worldwide for its beauty, architectural integrity, and unique design. The square has a shape like a shell, with a slope in the center, making it easy to see everything around you.
Several historic buildings surround Siena’s Piazza del Campo, including the Palazzo Pubblico, which houses the Civic Museum. There’s also Fonte Gaia—a “joyous” fountain, as its name implies—adorned with impressive sculptures.
Sitting in this historic heart of Siena on a hot summer day was an unforgettable experience. I was living in the moment, grasping all the surrounding beauty, enjoying my Tuscan holiday, and looking at the sun-tanned cheerful faces of other people.

Kanha Shanti Vanam
In India, I went to a meditation center. Kanha Shanti Vanam is the name of the location. It is on the outskirts of Hyderabad. I’ve always been interested in spirituality, so when I learned about this lovely location, I found it impossible to refuse. I had a week scheduled to spend there because I was so eager to visit Kanha.
I spent a week exploring the area to the fullest, but the mound is the one location I will never forget. One morning, I ascended to the summit and practiced meditation. I vividly recall the feeling of it. I felt very inspired after finishing my meditation and looking down from the top, and that feeling made me so joyful.

Pahalgam in Kashmir
Pahalgam, nestled amidst the breathtaking landscapes of Kashmir, is the most inspiring spot I have ever stood in the world. With verdant meadows, snow-capped mountains, and the glistening Lidder River flowing through, the beauty of Pahalgam is beyond words.
The tranquility and serenity of this place are unmatched, giving me a sense of inner peace and rejuvenation that I have never felt before. Pahalgam is truly a nature lover’s paradise, and it has inspired me to appreciate and protect the natural beauty of our planet.

The Santa Monica Pier
It might seem silly to some people, but I actually find the Santa Monica Pier to be one of the most inspiring places to be. I am a major surfing enthusiast and have always loved the water. When I first walked along this pier as a kid, I felt lucky to be where I was.
It inspired me to want to be a leader and still today it gives me the inspiration to start my surfing school, as well as designing software that aids in the education and creativity of children. It is such a fun place to be, and it makes you feel you’re a kid again, which is what gave me the motivation to do what I do today!
